Thoughts for the pessimists

What makes your brain tick?
According to researchers, any part of your body, if you don't use it you lose it, and particularly your brain, the more you use it the more brainy you become.

First impression

Your first impression alone is enough to built up into a complete character profile.

We all know that first impression have a long lasting effect, and that it takes a long time to overcome a poor initial impression.

If in your first date, you let your preconceived ideas dominate, you will create the impression of a self-cantered, aggressive individual, with whom it will be difficult to reason. then it will be difficult to dispel this impression.

Research has also shown that first impressions, even though they only relate to individual characteristics, tend to be built up into a complete character profile.

This sounds fairly complex, but you will probably recognize the situation from a closer description.

If your partner notices one outstanding characteristic in you on the first date, then he or she will tend to build up out of this character fragment a complete personality profile.

For example, if the partner thinks that you are aggressive, then in your partner's eyes, you will also be cold, idealistic, and even stupid.

If, on the other hand, the partner's first impression of you is of a friendly personality, he or she will also be inclined to believe that you are warm, honest, intelligent and caring.

There will no doubt have been occasions when you have also built up a picture in your own mind of a person, from one particular characteristic.

For example, you may well have been surprised by that person, who was aggressive in your mind, but then turned out later to be most warm, friendly, relaxed, and a very good listener.

Don't be in too great a hurry to build up a picture in your own mind of a person.

Do not draw any firm conclusions from the first date.

If you do so, you run the risk of letting preconceived ideas bend your behaviour in totally wrong directions.

Mantra: ‘You can't cure brain death but you can prevent it.
